Top Sliver Companies To Buy Right Now

It has been one month since the BPC cartel breakup announcement on July 29-30 rocked the world's potash suppliers. There have been many articles, varied takes and analysis done on specific stocks and the entire industry, from the macro implications and ramifications on down. Recently, news broke on an Indian government program being enacted to subsidize grains for farmers and the poor. That will likely have an affect on potash, but the news could be favorable or unfavorable. Investors won't know until the subsidy plan is implemented and has some ripples on the limping Indian economy. Other news on India's demands on the Uralkali company regarding lower potash prices also came to light on August 16th.

I have been following the various media, as well as reading all of the SA and related takes on the updates on this still uncertain tale as it unwinds and plays out. We are not near the finish line. In fact we are still inside the dark tunnel, figuratively. At least there is no discernible sound of a locomotive emerging from the pitch black (as of yet).

Sprott Physical Gold Trust (the Trust) is a closed-end mutual fund trust. The Trust was created to invest and hold substantially all of its assets in physical gold bullion. The Trust invests primarily in long-term holdings of unencumbered, fully allocated, physical gold bullion and does not speculate with regard to short-term changes in gold prices. Sprott Asset Management LP (the Manager) is the manager and RBC Dexia Investor Services Trust (RBC Dexia), a trust company, is the trustee of the Trust.

The Trust employs two custodians. The Royal Canadian Mint (Mint) acts as custodian for the Trust's physical gold bullion, pursuant to a precious metals storage agreement between the Manager, for and on behalf of the Trust, and the Mint, to which it refers as the precious metals storage agreement. RBC Dexia acts as custodian of the Trust's assets other than physical gold bullion pursuant to the trust agreement. If you are partial to Canadians, or just a little nervous about securing your gold, Sprott Physical Gold Trust (NYSEMKT: PHYS  ) is another viable option. Gold trusts and ETFs
One of the easiest ways to profit off of a rising gold price is to buy shares in one of the various exchange-traded gold trusts. These are essentially closed-end funds that own physical gold bullion located in a vault. Each share of the trust represents a fractional ownership share of the physical bullion in the vault. Thus, these trusts could be an easy way to purchase gold exposure directly on an exchange. One example of a trust like this is theSprott Physical Gold Trust (NYSEMKT: PHYS  ) .

Hot Paper Stocks For 2014

Every so often I'll read a story in the local paper that makes me chuckle, involving an honest mistake that, when compounded over the years, can turn into one costly little blunder. In this case, the mistake was compounded by a series of mergers, and $4.3 million later, a natural gas giant is still waiting to be paid for its missing gas.

It all started back in 2008, which was a trying time for us all. At that time, LINN Energy (NASDAQ: LINE  ) and the rest of its exploration and production peers were trying to figure out what to do as the economy hit the skids. In an effort to shore up its own balance sheet, the company sold its operations in the Appalachian Basin for $600 million to XTO Energy.

Unfortunately for XTO Energy, there was one small and, unbeknownst to anyone, unresolved matter. You see, LINN had a contract to sell its gas through a unit of Dominion Resources (NYSE: D  ) , which was gathering the gas in its system. However, LINN's gas wasn't up to the system's standards, so it began to look for another gatherer and it approached Equitrans, which is now part of EQT Midstream Partners (NYSE: EQM  ) but formerly was a unit of EQT Corp. (NYSE: EQT  ) -- they talked, but nothing was signed. However, an EQT employee later that year thought that it had and began crediting gas to the wrong company.

On January 14, 2011, it acquired the noncontrolling interest in Augusta Newsprint Company (ANC). In April 2012, the Company held approximately 48.8% of the outstanding shares of Fibrek Inc. In December 2012, the Company purchased Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited. oklyn Power Corporation. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Saibus Research]

Consolidation has been incremental in the paper and forest products industry. In May 2012, Resolute Forest Products (RFP) (formerly AbitibiBowater) announced that it had acquired 50.1% of Fibrek and acquired the remaining 49.9% in August. 2011 saw International Paper (IP) announce a hostile takeover of Temple-Inland and after offering $32/share in cash as well as the assumption of $600M of TIN's debt, IP was able to close the deal in February 2012. 2011 also saw Rock-Tenn (RKT) acquire Smurfit-Stone to create the number two player in the linerboard segment with 20% market share, trailing only International Paper's 40%. We see these moves as a prudent step to consolidation in the industry as certain types of paper such as newsprint and uncoated free sheet (office paper) are seeing falling demand due to increased use of digital resources.

They used to just make barrels. Now they make all kinds of different drums, containers, etc. That not a very big change for a company to make over 60 years or so.

Top Supermarket Stocks To Buy Right Now

LONDON -- I am backing supermarket leviathanTesco (LSE: TSCO  ) (NASDAQOTH: TSCDY  ) to put the difficulties of the past 12 months behind it and return to growth in the medium term. Shares in the firm have risen 15% since the start of 2013, and I am expecting them to gain traction as its strategy to rebuild its British operations comes to fruition.

Sales rise in first quarter but still lag rivals
Latest data from research consultancy Nielsen released this week showed sales at Tesco rose 4% in the 12 weeks to March 30 vs. the corresponding 2012 period. This was in huge part thanks to an early Easter period, which fell earlier than usual at the end of March.

Despite this sales improvement, Tesco's revenues increase still lagged that of its major supermarket rivals. Sales for bothJ SainsburyandAsda increased 8.2% and 5% in the first three months, whileWaitrose's demand increased 13.9%. And Tesco's U.K. market share slipped to 28.3% from 28.6%.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dimitra DeFotis]

The market seems to be showing fatigue particularly with positive onshore oil service data points that may nolonger seem incremental. Investors have become especially focused on potential issues and macro concerns. We believe this phaseof enhanced risk perceptions will pass and still recommend owning selective stocks based on attractive valuations and healthyfundamentals. Of the 16 oilfield services companies having reported their quarters to date, the share price changes have at timesbeen difficult to tie to specific results. … Five of the 12 companies who have beaten earnings expectations have seen their share prices drop on the day, including Basic Energy Services (BAS) (-9.0%), Baker Hughes (BHI) (-2.5%), National Oilwell Varco (NOV) (-1.5%), Oceaneering (OII) (-4.2%), and Schlumberger (SLB) (-2.0%). Other stocks beating expectations have traded higher as expected, including Cameron International (CAM) (+4.1%), FMC Technologies (FTI) (+3.1%), Mitcham Industries (MIND) (+3.8%), Nabors Industries (NBR) (+1.2%), Patterson-UTI Energy (PTEN) (+1.8%), RPC (RES) (+8.4%), and Weatherford International (WFT) (+2.3%). Companies which have missed have universally seen their share prices decline, including Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO) (-4.3%), Gulfmark Offshore (GLF) (-0.1%), and Hercules Offshore (HERO) (-6.9%). Halliburton (HAL) was in line and flat on the day.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Halliburton (NYSE: HAL  ) will release its quarterly report on Tuesday, and investors have expressed some concerns in recent months about the oil-services company's future prospects, bidding share prices down from their near-record high levels. After strong earnings from Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB  ) last week, investors want Halliburton earnings growth to show similar gains, but the company will still have to work hard to outperform peers including Baker Hughes (NYSE: BHI  ) and offshore specialist Transocean (NYSE: RIG  ) .

Top 5 Telecom Companies To Buy For 2015

We're rapidly running out of days in October for two major telecoms developments that many were expecting this month, namely the awarding of new licenses for 4G wireless service and for new telecoms service providers known as virtual network operators (VNOs). There are still 10 days left in the month, so it's possible that one or both could still happen. But the usual delays could mean we may not see any major announcements for a little while longer. Meantime, media are reporting some new information on a timetable for the VNO roll-out, and in another major development that could shake up the status quo, media are also saying that leading wireless telco China Mobile (CHL) could soon get a license to offer fixed-line telecoms services.

I've been writing about the VNO development for awhile now, as it's really quite exciting with the potential to instantly triple the number of telecoms service providers in the market from the current three to a new field of 8-9 operators. Equally important, most of those new operators, which would lease network capacity from the existing three telcos, are private sector firms. That means they should be much more nimble and innovative than the current monopoly of three big state-run companies, China Mobile, China Unicom (CHU) and China Telecom (CHA).

Top 5 Telecom Companies To Buy For 2015: Koninklijke KPN NV (KPN)

Koninklijke KPN NV (KPN) is a Netherlands-based telecommunications and information and communication technology (ICT) service provider. Mobile International consists of segments such as Germany, Belgium, Rest of the world; and iBasis, providing wholesale voice services and terminating of international calls worldwide. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Corinne Gretler]

KPN (KPN) surged 16 percent to 2.32 euros as America Movil offered 2.40 euros a share for the company. The price -- a 20 percent premium to KPN close yesterday -- would value the stake that America Movil doesn already own at 7.2 billion euros ($9.6 billion). The Mexican mobile-phone operator has a 29.8 percent holding in KPN. An agreement between the two companies to limit America Movil stake to 30 percent expired after KPN agreed last month to sell its German business E-Plus to Telefonica SA.

  • [By Corinne Gretler]

Royal KPN NV (KPN), the former Dutch phone monopoly, surged 13 percent to 1.80 euros as three people familiar with the matter said Telefonica SA is in advanced talks to take over its German mobile-phone business.

Advisors' Opinion:

Finally, because three isn't a crowd when it comes to receiving dividends, we received our $0.2637 per share distribution from France Telecom (NYSE: ORAN  ) . France Telecom pays out two semi-annual dividends each year that can vary wildly in size. Like Exelon, France Telecom reduced its dividend by more than 40% recently, but is still pledging to deliver what would equate to at least 0.80 euros ($1.07) this year. That would equate to a yield of 10.8% based on yesterday's closing price, and the prospect of nearly an $0.80 dividend being announced later this summer. Don't be surprised if you see income seekers jumping into France Telecom in the coming months.

Top 10 Dividend Companies To Invest In Right Now

Genworth Financial Inc. (NYSE: GNW) has not paid a dividend since 2008. That may soon be about to change if an analyst call from Monday turns out to be true. UBS raised the financial services firm up to Buy from Neutral, with a focus on the dividend and return of capital.

In the upgrade, UBS also raised the one-year price target up to $18 from $13. When we did our top analyst upgrades on Monday, we noted that Genworth is still turning around and that shares were up almost 100% from the lows of 2013. What really demands another look is that UBS is opining about Genworth’s prospects of paying a dividend again.

The firm sees Genworth having higher return on equity than its peers over the coming years. UBS is predicting that Genworth will reinstate a dividend on the common stock in 2014. Another bold prediction is that Genworth could start buying back its common stock in 2015.

When we first saw the research summary this morning, it felt a bit late because Genworth has already doubled from its lows of even 2013. The mortgage insurance woes are finally looking as though they are in the rear view mirror. Even the financial products sales may be seeing an improvement.

Verizon (NYSE: VZ  ) posted gains of 0.9% even as the leader of Canada's Industry Ministry met with leaders of various Canadian mobile operators in order to discuss Verizon's potential move into the Canadian market. Canadian companies are concerned that Verizon and other U.S. carriers could have the inside track at wireless spectrum auctions to be held next January, with competitive advantages that could put their established franchises at risk. Given the need for Verizon to find new growth avenues, making use of every competitive advantage it can get would be a positive for the company.

  • [By Bloomberg]

Companies added fewer workers than projected in February, a sign that U.S. employers were waiting for a pickup in demand before boosting headcount, a private report based on payrolls showed today. The 139,000 increase in employment followed a revised 127,000 gain in January that was weaker than initially reported, the weakest two months since August-September 2012, according to the ADP Research Institute in Roseland, N.J. The median forecast of 39 economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for a 155,000 advance. Harsh winter weather conditions, which kept some shoppers away from stores and car dealerships, help explain why companies were hesitant to accelerate hiring at a more robust pace. Faster payroll growth that spurs bigger wage gains would help to boost the consumer purchases that make up almost 70 percent of the economy. "Employment was weak across a number of industries," Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics in West Chester, Pa., said in a statement. Moody's produces the figures with ADP (ADP). "Bad winter weather, especially in mid-month, weighed on payrolls. Job growth is expected to improve with warmer temperatures." Estimates in the Bloomberg survey of economists ranged from gains of 100,000 to 180,000 after a previously reported increase of 175,000 in January. Missing Mark ADP's numbers have missed the mark in tracking the government's jobs figures over the past couple of months. The group's initial estimates showed a 238,000 gain in employment for December followed by a 175,000 January increase. That compares with the Labor Department's initial estimate of an 87,000 gain in December private payrolls and a 142,000 increase in January. Stock-index futures were little changed after the report. The contract on the Standard & Poor's 500 index (^GSPC) expiring this month rose less than 0.1 percent to 1,872 at 9:06 a.m. in New York. Payrolls at goods-producing industries increased headcount by 19,000. Factories added 1,000 workers,

Top 10 Dividend Companies To Invest In Right Now: Simon Property Group Inc.(SPG)

Simon Property Group, Inc. is a real estate investment trust. The firm engages in investment, ownership, and management of properties. It invests in the real estate markets across the globe. The firm?s portfolio includes regional malls, premium outlet centers, the mills, community / lifestyle centers, and international properties. Simon Property Group was founded in 1960 and is based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

First up is Simon Property Group (SPG), a $51 billion name that tips the scales as the largest U.S. real estate investment trust. SPG owns a wide collection of retail real estate assets, with U.S. regional malls and outlet centers making up approximately 90% of net lease income. Simon also owns a 29% stake in Klepierre, which gives the firm exposure to European retail properties as well. Funds picked up 2.27 million shares of SPG last quarter.

Simon's scale is one of its biggest benefits. The firm is better able to secure access to cheap capital than its smaller peers, and it's able to participate in larger projects that a smaller firm would require a partner for. The decision to spin off its smaller strip mall properties into Washington Prime Group (WPG) is a positive for the SPG shareholders. It retains the highest-quality assets under the SPG banner while unlocking shareholder value at a time when REITs are looking comparatively attractive in the marketplace.

In many cases, SPG also gets added exposure to retail sales. Because the firm's main properties are malls, lease agreements typically include a cut of store revenue. That's an attractive sweetener in an environment where consumer spending continues to be on the upswing.

Right now, SPG pays out a 3.16% dividend yield. While this stock isn't the beefiest payout, it's a staid bet for investors looking for their first taste of REIT exposure.
